Cards & suspensions
Yellow cards pile up, red ones hurt right away. Here you'll find when a player gets suspended, for how long, which competitions the ban applies to – and what happens to it at the end of the season since 5.0.1.
Cards in the match
- Yellow: a warning, the player stays on. A second yellow in the same match becomes a second yellow (yellow-red).
- Yellow-red and red: the player is sent off at once and your team plays on a man down. If it hits the keeper, the substitute keeper comes on (an outfield player goes off) – without one, the weakest outfield player goes in goal, never a defender.
- How many cards you collect is up to you: high aggression wins tackles but brings cards and injuries – players with high FairPlay handle it better.
When a suspension is triggered
| Cause | Ban |
|---|---|
| Second yellow (yellow-red) | 1 match |
| Red card | 1 to 3 matches – the federation's verdict is luck of the draw |
| Yellow-card ban in the league | every 5th yellow of the season = 1 match |
| Yellow-card ban in the cup, lower-league cup, international competitions and national team | every 3rd yellow = 1 match |
Yellow cards are counted per competition type and season – four yellows in the league plus two in the cup don't add up to a ban. A yellow that turns into a second yellow doesn't count towards the tally. Friendlies hand out cards but never bans.
Where the ban applies
A suspension only applies in the competition type it was earned in: league bans in the league, cup bans in the cup, national-team bans only in the national team. The international stage is the one exception:
- Champions Cup, confederation cup and Kings Cup (qualifiers included) form one group. A ban picked up in the Kings Cup is served in the next European match, and yellow cards are counted across all international matches together.
- Every other type stays separate – nobody takes a league ban into a tournament.
With every match your club plays in that competition type the ban drops by one – whether you would have picked the player or not. Suspended players are flagged in the line-up; if they are still in the eleven, the match engine pulls them before kick-off and fills the gap automatically. Better to reshuffle yourself.
End of season: what stays, what expires (5.0.1)
- Yellow-card bans expire with the end of the season – and the yellow tally restarts at zero.
- Bans from red and yellow-red cards carry over into the new season: see red on the final matchday and you miss the opener.
- Anything older than the finished season expires as well.
Until 5.0.1 a bug kept suspensions alive across season ends – sometimes for years. Since the update the season change cleans up properly, and the old leftovers have been wiped.
Where you see suspensions
- Player file → Details: the Suspension line – "Eligible in all competitions" or "suspended for X more matches". The statistics tab also counts yellow, yellow-red and red cards.
- Line-up: suspended players are flagged.
- Match report: every card with minute and cause in the ticker.
Yellow-red = 1 match, red = 1–3 matches · yellow ban: every 5th yellow in the league, every 3rd in cup, international and national team · counted per competition type and season · a ban only applies in its own competition type, international competitions count as one group (Champions Cup/confederation cup/Kings Cup) · drops with every match your club plays · end of season: yellow bans gone, red/yellow-red carries over · friendlies never suspend.
